Meditation is quite a skill but can be easily learnt with practice and correct support/guidance. The key is to do it regularly! Just like learning any new skill, the more you do it, the better you'll get and the more you'll feel the benefits. With an overwhelming amount of information now available on the subject, it can be tricky to know where to start, what type of meditation style to adopt and to know where to go if you do struggle. People often come with questions and/or blocks in meditation. Thankfully, with experienced teachers at hand, Evolution Wellness is able to assist you!
Blocks to meditation
I don't have time
I've tried to do it but I'm not sure I'm doing it right?
I can't concentrate
I can't get my mind to go blank
I've tried to meditate but I always fall asleep
I don't have anywhere to do it
I struggle to motivate myself
Sitting still for a long time hurts
These are all normal blocks and commonly experience by many people so you are not alone! Evolution Wellness is very aware that students will likely need help to move past any issues being experience in order to reap the benefits of meditation. If you are struggling with any of the above, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for guidance.
What is meditation?
Meditation is a word that is used often incorrectly and thrown around quite a bit. At its most basic, meditation is bringing the mind to a single point of focus again and again with the aim of bringing peace, quietening the inner chatter of the mind and achieving the numerous benefits on offer. At a more advanced level meditation can be used to bring about self- healing, self-hypnosis, contemplation of complex topics and spiritual/religious connections.
Do I need to have any meditation experience?
Absolutely not! We all have to start somewhere and part of the mission to bring as many people to meditation as possible so absolutely welcome beginner (And more experienced) students to Evolution Wellness! I recommend the Level 1 meditation course which will give you a solid foundation in the basics and enable you to continue your practice independently should you wish to.
I'm a bit worried that meditation could be dangerous or leave my mind exposed. Will it?!
Meditation is very safe and whilst you will experience deep relaxation, you will be in complete control of yourself. No one can make you think or do things you don't want to. Should you wish to stop a meditation at any point you will be able to.
As your practice becomes more advanced, you may find you come across new challenges.
(Please note: Meditation should not be used as a complete substitute for therapy or medical treatments. If you are unsure, seek the advice of qualified health professionals.)
I can't sit still for long periods of time, is this an issue?
No, not at all. Anxiety, chronic pain and other medical conditions, for example, can mean the need to move or shift position frequently. This isn't a problem and a variety of seating equipment is on offer to make you as comfortable as possible.
Do I need to sit cross legged and chant Ohm?
No, not at all! This is a common depiction of Meditation but only applies to certain meditation techniques and disciplines. It's not compulsory to sit a certain way or chant to have an effective meditation experience.
What style of meditation do you teach?
Many! Meditation is not a 'one size fits all' activity. Different methods and philosophies will impact and suit individuals differently so to address this, there is a broad range of practices and meditational paths taught which students can then follow in more depth should they find a style that particularly appeals to them.
Do I need to bring anything with me to classes/courses?
Everything you'll need will be provided for you but if you would like to bring your own yoga mat or meditation equipment, you're most welcome to. Some people like to bring a blanket to class but this is optional.
How long will it take before I start to see any changes/benefits from meditation?
It will depend on how much practise you put into it. You will most likely feel relaxation and a 'sense of calm' straight away but scientists say it takes 8 weeks to start changing the structure of the brain and bringing about the 'big' changes. The more you put in with meditation, the more you get out!
Do I need to be spiritual or religious to meditate?
No not at all. Our meditation classes and courses have been designed to be as inclusive as possible so people from all religions, spiritual paths, or none at all are most welcome! If you have any concerns, please get in contact.
I don't feel comfortable meditating with others, can I do it in a 121?
Yes of course. Private sessions are on offer on all services so please get in contact to discuss your needs.
I have another question and although there is lots of information on your website, I can't seem to find the answer to my question. Can I contact you for assistance?
Absolutely! Just get in contact via one of the methods on the contact page.
